Thangka of Guru Rinpoche. Also known as Padmasambhava in Sanskrit. Greatly revered by all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Guru Rinpoche introduced tantric buddhism into Tibet in 779 AD. As a result helped found the first buddhist monastery at Samye.
This painting depicts Guru Rinpoche. He sits in royal posture admist the mountains & lakes. Known as the lotus born, legend has it that he was born on a lotus blossom.
